Hawks update

In the last 24 hours, the Seahawks:

1. Cut Grant Wistrom. We now have only one old, white defensive end.

2. Signed Deon Grant (formerly of the Jaguars) to play free safety, and made him the third richest safety in the league. Grant’s not the third best safety, but he is a solid coverage guy, and he’s said to be a leader in the locker room. This means Ken Hamlin is almost certainly gone.

The Hawks cap room is now drying up. Our remaining needs are TE and guard. The latter is a good position to draft, but this is a weak TE class for the draft, and the only free agent left on the market is…Jerramy Stevens.

With the newly revamped secondary, if we bring back Stevens and then draft a Guard in the second round....that'd make this a reasonably decent offseason, I think. After losing out on Deilman like we did, there was a little time there where I was worried. We certainly gave Kerney too much cash, especially to just turn around and dump Winstrom.

But now I see a reasonably decent team shaping up here. It looks like we're not going to be the best in the league on either side of the ball, but we should be pretty good on both. If Grant allows Boulware to play with more aggression up near the line, our defense could go back to being one of the best in the league, I think.
